For those still in session...
Here are some last minute "end-of-the-year" ideas for your students do on the computer:
Culminating Presentations
Whether you use PowerPoint or another online presentation application, assign one of these activities to your students:
Reading Series Summary: Generally reading series are divided into units. Ask your students to create a slide for each unit read and summarize important details learned in this unit. Click here for an organizer for 6th grade HM reading series.
A Look Back at What I Learned: Students create a slide for each subject area (reading, math, social studies, and science) and also one for social growth. On each slide, students describe three or more key ideas that were learned throughout the year.
Remembering the Year: Students love to reminisce about popular things that occurred this year. For this project, students create five or more slides selecting a popular event or thing that happened this year. For example, slides may include popular songs, TV shows, sporting events, field trips, friends, places to go, funniest thing that happened during the year, etc. This should be a positive fun look back at the year.
Journaling
Help students begin a blog to write over the summer. For the first entries in the blog, students write about their plans for summer and then another entry about goals for the next school year. It would be great to work with next year grade level teachers to have the students share blog entries at the beginning of next year.
As an alternative, students can write on these two topics using a word processor or other publishing program, adding graphics to highlight their thoughts.
Thank you cards
Students use Publisher or other online resource to make thank you cards for people that have helped them throughout the school year. This may be for teachers, librarian, parents, brother/sister, office staff or any other significant person. Here are two online resources, but there are many more that also include e-cards.
